Films

(Item 1) 1408 (Paramount, 2007) This is my main focus film and will play a big part in the investigation. 1408 doesn’t make use of the gore and violence we see in most “horror” movies these days but it has the same effect if not better. It takes more of a unanswered paranormal style approach to horror which puts it into the psychological sub-genre.

(Item 2) Nightmare On Elm Street (New Line Cinema, 2010) I am going to use this movie because it sums up the modern day slasher movie perfectly. It has plenty of gore but also manages to keep the suspense through the use of dreams. Obviously Freddy controls your dreams and can usually only get you while your asleep (although he has been known to come out in movies like Freddy’s Dead and the Spin Off To Friday 13 And Nightmare On Elm Street, Freddy Vs Jason). I think this has psychological aspects as well as gore and violence.

(Item 3) Hostel Pt.1 (Lions Gate Films, 2005) This item is useful because it shows the splatter horror genre perfectly. This movie was only limited to be shown in certain countries because of its overly graphic nature, this was one of the movies that developed horror into the modern day. With this movie having the label of “Torture Porn” it really does imply that it has taken what we used to have and pushed it over the edge.

Websites

(Item 4) - Horror films are unsettling movies that strive to elicit the emotions of fear, disgust and horror from viewers. Horror films deal with the viewer's nightmares, hidden worst fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Although a good deal of it is about the supernatural, if some films contain a plot about morbidity, serial killers, a disease/virus outbreak and surrealism, they may be termed "horror". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_film

Interviews

(Item 5) Eli Roth On Hostel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5ArtKwbobY). This is useful because you get the direct view on the movie as well as the writers with him doing both. This gives you more information about the movies influences and how it came about.

(Item 6) Samuel Bayer On Nightmare On Elm Street (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aJtMuSpANQ&feature=related) This interview is fairly good as it gives some aspects of the struggle of a remake of a famous movie/franchise.

(Item 7) 1408 Interview With John Cusak, Mary MacCormack & Mikael Hafstrom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk8yEHjAZj8)
